What is All County Chorus?
The All – County Chorus program is designed to give county vocalists the opportunity to participate in an advanced large ensemble under the direction of a guest conductor. Middle school students are chosen and seated according to the individual school directors.
What is All County NYSSMA?
The All County music festival is an opportunity for students to be rewarded for their individual success on their instrument or voice. Students are chosen based on their NYSSMA scores from the previous school year, as well as teacher recommendation.
What do Nyssma scores mean?
Level 1-4 music is rated as “Outstanding, “Excellent”, “Good”, etc. on a scale of 1-28 with 28 being a perfect score. Level 5-6 music is rated as A+, A, A-, B+, B, etc. on a scale of 1- 100 with 100 being a perfect score.

The New York State School Music Association ( NYSSMA ) is the New York affiliate of National Association for Music Education. These festivals take place at local middle and high schools, as well as state colleges and state universities within the fifteen NYSSMA zones, each of which covers an area in New York State.

Preparing a NYSSMA solo is an optional, extra talk, above and beyond the regular band, chorus, or orchestra work. What is it? At the Solo and Ensemble Festivals, students have the opportunity, alone, or in a small group, to perform a piece of music that is selected from the NYSSMA Manual.
How long does it take to get NYSSMA results?
Approximately three to four weeks after the upload period closes – the student and the teacher will have access to completed evaluations on the platform. Teachers review evaluation results with students and may print copies as needed.
What should I wear to the NYSSMA?
Although there is no particular style or color of dress required for NYSSMA, most teachers would agree that NYSSMA is a special occasion and should be treated as a performance. Students should wear clothing that is neat, clean and reflects a serious attitude.

5 Easy Steps To Participate in NYSSMA:
- REGISTRATION: Register for NYSSMA by completing the registration form given to students by their SCHOOL music teacher.
- RECORD: Students must pre-record their NYSSMA solo and scales, and upload it to the musicfirst.com website during the student’s “ upload period.”
